Project 82 Kawasaki GPZ 750
Bike was purchased as a basket case/pile of parts. We decided to build a retro Eddie Lawson replica.
Frame was powder coated, swingarm was braced and powder coated, tank and plastics were painted in the vintage Kawasaki race scheme.
We sourced some Astralite wheels and fitted some 80’s type tires. Forks were rebuilt and rear shocks upgraded. The motor had no known problems but we decided to go through the whole thing. We replaced all the bearings, rings etc. We had a complete vale job done and replaced the valves, springs and retainers. Of course we rebuilt the carbs and added pod filters.
A cool exhaust system was found and a removable baffle was fabricated -- this bike makes a great sound without the baffle.
All the case covers, brackets and hardware were either repainted or replated.
All the electronics were gone over and any questionable items replaced or upgraded. Coils were replaced with some accel units that needed custom brackets fabbed. Electronic ignition was installed and everything tuned and adjusted.
A good seat could not be found, so we had the original recovered with a slightly different cleaner look. We also cleaned up the back of the bike with a custom tail light / plate bracket.
When completed, this bike was fun to ride and felt very retro. Bike was sold for funds for our Bridgeport style mill. |
